Boarding School Life
Everything you wanted to know about boarding school and weren't afraid to ask. Everyone keeps asking me about boarding school so first off let me insist that everything in my books is virtually like fiction! Even some of the names have been changed! Boarding school is, as all girls who read my books and board know, is pretty much like I describe it in the series only cooler....

You don't have rentals breathing down your neck and at least while you are at school you can forget about their mad problems. Also you don't have to commute and you get more time to hang out with your friends.
That's another popular question - will I miss my friends and family? No, you won't. If you do you can go home but I bet you won't!
At boarding school you kind of have to get along with everyone (even the Honeys of this world) because like family they're not going anywhere in a hurry. More importantly one day you might want to borrow their lip-gloss or some really cool skirt of theirs. I think boarding school is more tolerant and easy going but I don't have any other experience to compare it to really - just the emails I get from readers at askcalypso@calypsochronicles.com
On the down side they work you to death because all schools care about are league tables and squeezing A-grades out of sensitive young minds. Tis tres, tres, difficult at times the strain they put us under. Mind you, I fully intend to do well in my GCSE's and A -Levels because I don't want to spend the rest of my life borrowing cool clothes and accessories of my mate-age. And I want to travel business class and work in a job that I quite enjoy.
Loads of USA readers are writing in asking if they would they be better off at a boarding school in the States rather than England which is too much responsibility for an immature girl like moi so I asked Star who is worldy wise and she says "definately come to England! Come over here y'all!" I suspect she's imagining having more exotic overseas friends she can stay with during the summer breaks to escape the madness of the Dirge Derbyshire Estate. If it's any comfort there are boarders at English boarding schools from every continent on the earth so I at least you can hang out with your homies on the plane on the way to and from school.
The other question everyone is asking is which school is best? Can they get a scholarship if they're parents can't afford fees? And should they go for mixed or single sexed? So my advice is do what everyone else does and check out the Tatler School Guide it's on the internet http://www.tatler.co.uk/Schools/2006/. Good luck!-
Omg! thanks so much for posting this!!
OMG! no way!
oh my gods! oh my days! like i am your massivoist fan E.V.E.R.!
i love you!
where have you been all my life.
all my friends at school are so lame with a capital L A M E, and then i read your sassy stories and i am like - who are you? because i sure want to be at school with you instead of my lameo shameo friends with their lameo shameo lives. all they care about is work work work, and there you are like totally getting with this prince and i am like OH MY GOD what am i doing at my school. i am packing my bags and coming to st augustines bebe because i cannot live another ay with my rentals breathing down my ramones t-shirt clad back. like oh my god no way. you are too cool for a palace let alone school. so just keep doing what you're doing...i think it is well hot. you are a star!
i want to be exactly like you.
i practice calypsoisms in the mirror every morning, and sometimes in the evenings.
i want my prince to come and find me.
i wouldnt mind a bit of that alex pettyfer either, but that is a different story.
i mean malcolm is pretty hot. i like my men with a full head of ginger hair. especially when it gets like totally caught in the sun and i am lie Oh My Giddy Frickin Aunt get here right now you greek god and a half.
if he played poker i would be on him like a case of measles. there is NO WAY that boy would be able to scratch ME off.
i want him soooo much!
like, all the guys at my school are total dweebs. they are about two feet high an skinny. we dont have sports teams so they are all computer nerds.
anyway - moms is totally getting at me about spending too much time on the puter,
so love ya babes,

Its been a gr8 help xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Good god you people are pathetic, if any of you actually were british, went to the hugely pressurising schools, or said "darling" in your normal vocabulary I would be hugely surprised. I adore these books because they are surprisingly more honest than some. But for crying out loud, why don't you people accept the fact you arent an upper-class-wannabe and be who you are, I'm sure you are all absolutely lush people, but seriously, I do like the books tremendously, but it is actually no where near that fun in realy life. The rival all-girls school to mine has the highest suicide rate of any in the country, on average 3 a year. A major boys school witnessed the murder of a teachers daughter recently. They aren't wonderful places, I mean they have amazingly fun moments, but you don't have any idea what they are like, so don't pretend you do. Just be yourselves for Gods sake, if you didn't read properly that is one of the underlying messages of the books.

Actually I go to an MPS (minor public school) and I'm not rich and I say darling quite a lot darlings so ooh aah!
me too, specially on St Val's day darling, darling, darling, darling, darling, darling, darling, darling. Gosh I could go on all day only it's almost midnight and I'm waiting for an im from a certian boy...
I'd like to go down on record as being the type of girl who doesn't darling, darlings. I try and avoid the whole darling mwaw mwaw as much as poss. But hey, it's a free world! Star
Boarding school life requires a well equipped survival kit: mobile phone, computer, IPod, tres cool soft toy - pref old and knocked about for stashing unmentionables in...fake ID, vodka, sweets and erm oh well that sort of thing. Most essential is the ability to put up with anything and anyone with a frenchish shrug.
I think st Augustines sound truley manifique but i wod miss mi rents to much.I go to an all girls school though but thats dull.xxx I think it would be sooo fantabulous to hang out with your m8s but utterly tiresom to have honey around.anyaways luv ya all x
While I don't darling all the time loves, my mates and I actually do say it alot. I am of the upperclass with the title of Lady (mabye you've seen me in Tatler) but, yaah, saying darling alot is quite alright. I absolutally adore my posh boarding school!
Yar, I go to day skool but channel boarding school. I sayj dahring all the time just to keep myself sane (and annoy people) ooh-la-la
Calypso, while I adore your writings (Your love life is almost, almost as mad as my friends)and the insanity and sayings. I can't help but feel completely and totaly jealous. You got to go off to boarding school in England and your like entirely georgus. And I'm stuck over here in America in public school, and besides that even if my parents magically decided I could go off to boarding school I'm waaay too old to be starting, at least I think so. Tell me, what age do you think it's too late to start boarding school?
you can start boarding school at 16 & do the last two years
I'm 13 right now and in 7th grade, and my parents are ok with me going for 9th grade and I'll be turning 15 then. is that a good year to go or should i wait until the year after?
Check out the tatler school guide - but yar, should be cool.
For all who doubt that boarding school girls aren't complex sentient creative creatures of massive intellect go to this liknk. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqjmV0jHb5E
Well, Pops, we ARE being ourselves. we are doing our own thing without taking no muss no fuss from anyone, especially people like you, who seem to have NO imagination. Every girl can act like a princess if she wants... there's no law against it! If we feel like princesses we can act like princesses.
Maybe, some if the characters are role models, who some girls live up to. Have you nver tried to be like your role model?
Maybe it's YOU thant's on the high horse, acting like you can boss people around?
Well, toodle-pip DARLING.
btw, I was referring to 'Pops' who blogged on the 14th February
LOVE YOU DARLING xx
If you had parents like Bob and Sarah you would swim an ocean to go to boarding school. They started sending me monthly care packages of granola. This takes up my entire tuck allowance and seriously there is no currency in granola. I begged them to stop but they increased the size of the next "care package" and I got a blue for overindulgence! All year I thought they were sending them because, they are, well, Sarah and Bob but it turns out Bob thought it was a really, really funny joke! Sister has now written him a sternish letter telling him to cease and disist with all his care. That god I am in the safe hands of Sister Constance. She even slipped me a few illicit mars bars. Go Sister!
*sigh* I'd LOVE to go to boarding school, but unfortunately, I'm considered 'special needs'- aka. Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder. I'm currently enrolled at a school that works around problems like that. Do you think there would be any sort of programs like that at boarding schools?
Hi!
I am french and in France there is not that much boarding schools, there are no uniforms and boarding schools are usually for people with problems. So when I read Calypso I REALLy want to go in a boarding school in england, darling! But it's sooo impossible with my parents and because french and english school programs are not the same.
London french school is not a boarding school, please, do you know a boarding school in england with a french progamm? I feel sooooooooooo depressed ( am in grade 10!)

I really appreciate your thoughts about boarding school . It is true that there is no perfect environment and no perfect school but the way you described your experience, you kept a positive attitude and you learned to enjoy it. I also think that the educational program might have contributed to your outlook. Did you choose this or your parent's? I think it is important to involve the student in this aspect.
Spending life in a boarding school would surely affect ones life. It may be in a bad or good way but that should depend on your personal values. Surviving in a boarding school needs a great value that you have to live by. Without that, you will surely go astray. It is also exposing yourself from the life that's ahead of you - being independent and responsible it is.
Misters
I digged this excellent prog DRM-removal and used it for removing drm from itunes protected musics a years ago, it did it well, btw. Then I bought mp3 player and it could't play my wma files so I decided to convert wma to mp3 with drm-removal. It works like a charm! Just some moves, you only need to click "Add" button and choose the folder of wma files. They will convert all the tracks simultaneously at a really high speed. If you have the same problem and need to convert wma to mp3, you should try drm-removal!
I am big addict :) of audiobooks and actually wonder, if it legal. I bought a book (now its mine!) from napster, but may be its drm and I can't copy it to my MP3 player!! Thats dick!! I can remove drm - but what about legacy?
thanks in advance!
Okay like this seems cool in all but like a few of my friends say that there are parties.... is this true??? :/ cos my parents wont let me go (even tho if i have to beg, I will lol)
What boarding schools do you recommend? I am looking for one for my kids too.
Awesome post, but it would be better if in future you can share more about this subject. Keep rocking.
It was nice to read this information in this blog . This is really interesting and thanks for sharing.

Oh my gosh thank you so much for posting this! I've been struggling with whether or not I should go to a boarding school. This has really given me a good idea on life in a boarding school!
Thank you for sharing your information about girl boarding schools. I was reading thru your blog and there was a lot of good information here.
I think boarding schools are a great way to get some respect and also some manners for some children. My daughter went to one and she loved it.
